 Name: Pranay Shah

Age: 28

Profession: Sales Manager

Before HealthifyMe

I am a 28-year-old Sales Manager living in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. My fitness levels were quite low before joining HealthifyMe. My job includes frequent travel due to which my lifestyle had turned haywire. I would often eat unhealthy food on various business trips. I found it difficult to prioritize my health, which led to weight gain.

My weight has been going up for the last 3 years due to my poor eating habits and low physical activity. I felt lazy and lethargic most of the time. Sometimes, I didn’t feel like my age – I felt like an old man. I was also aware of the comments that were passed about my weight in a hushed tone.

The turning point

After introspection, I realized I had an entire life ahead of me. I had a list of things I wanted to achieve! And the first thing on that list was to get healthy and fit! Only with good health can a person think of progress. It’s safe to say that multiple factors led me to start my transformation with HealthifyMe.

I came to know about the HealthifyMe app through one of my relatives, and I downloaded it to see what it was all about. Who knew it would lead to this?

Weight loss transformation journey

I think I got serious about weight loss around January 2020 when I weighed around 93 kgs. My initial target was to reach 85 kgs because I knew weight loss is a challenging task and I’m a hardcore foodie. So, I assumed that it would be almost impossible for me to manage.

I set a weight goal accordingly and started following the parameters that were set for me. Initially, the progress was slow, and it took time to yield results, but then I stringently followed my plan and within the next 3-4 months I started seeing results.

I felt a bit lighter, and this encouraged me further to burn more calories and aim to get healthier. This has continued even after weight loss. After almost 11 months, I had lost a whopping 18 kgs!

Tips/Things that worked well throughout the transformation journey

The best things that worked for me are portion control & exercise. Portions were divided into 5 categories, and I made it a point to stick to the calories per portion. Sometimes if 100-200 calories were missed, I would make up for it in the other portions, but overall daily, the numbers added up to what was required.

Portion control helped me manage my daily calorie intake better. It stopped me from binging on food and eating high-calorie meals. Also, I made it a point to walk every day for 1.5 to 2 hours, which helped me reach my calorie burn goal and to feel mentally fresh during the pandemic.

Favorite features on the HealthifyMe app

The basic parameters like the calorie tracker, calorie burnt, steps walked, etc. help maintain a healthy lifestyle. I feel these are the app’s best features as it helps monitor your progress on a day-to-day basis.

The most significant change in lifestyle after Joining HealthifyMe

Significant lifestyle change: I would say walking daily. It has become a mandatory part of my lifestyle now, and I cannot do without it. Every chance I get – I walk! I even start walking around in the house, even if it’s for 5 minutes! I was too lazy to get out of the sofa before, but after HealthifyMe – walking has become a major change in my lifestyle.

One of the greatest learning: Never give up! Everything is possible if you put in the right amount of hard work & effort. Results may not come thick and fast, but they will come!

Breaking down barriers

During the initial months when the progress was slow, I felt that this might not work and maybe I should stop. But I was uncomfortable with the extra weight. So, I made a single point agenda which was to lose weight, and I kept pursuing it because I knew that eventually, I will lose weight.

Being determined & focused on what I wanted to achieve kept me going and I overcame the negativity.

Reactions from friends and family after the transformation

The reactions were overwhelming! Most of the reactions were that this is unbelievable – the transformation was such! Even I couldn’t believe it when I compared my new pictures with old ones.

Close friends & family were more than happy and relieved to see me fit, healthy & good-looking! I had put in a before-after photo on social media and there were so many comments asking me to give them tips! I never imagined I would give out weight loss tips to anyone! And I also recommended downloading HealthifyMe!

How do I feel now – after achieving my goal?

I feel like I have achieved something which I could only dream of a year ago! This journey has been nothing short of inspiring, motivating & pushing oneself to not stop until you have reached your target. And I still feel I could lose a couple more kilos so I am working towards that now.

Pomegranates, also known as Anaar, are famous for their ruby-red tiny edible arils (seeds) and sweet-tart flavour. The fruit’s natural juice and seeds are rich in nutrients that offer multiple benefits. From controlling blood sugar levels to improving memory, pomegranates are a wonder fruit that can be an excellent addition to your diet. The pomegranate juice and peel extract may also help increase insulin sensitivity, which is beneficial for people with diabetes. Find out whether eating pomegranates increa...

Disenchanted (2022) Review

DON’T LOOK DOWN! (AND DON’T WATCH THIS MOVIE) Survival movies have been around for quite some time and have had mixed results with viewers. Tales of death-defying moments of surviving the unbridled wrath of natural elements, surreal circumstances, and unlucky situations have always been fixed point of fascination with storytelling, leading to one suspense after another and finding thrills within those “fight for flight” moments. Yet, sometimes these films struggle to find a proper balance within its own context, with an unbalanced presentation of trying to focus more on the actual survival sequences (scares, suspense, and thrills) and not much on its characters and story progression. Sometimes narrative can be well-founded within true life events (i.e., based on a true story), while other times some survival accounts were created from fiction. Such prime examples of lates includes 2015’s The Martian, 2015’s Everest, 2016’s The Revenant, 2017’s 47 Meters Down, 2018’s Adrift, 2019’s...
